Models Own Ice Neons: Pink Punch and Toxic Apple

Hi Everyone,

So... The last week I have mostly been cleaning the carpets and doing lots of washing... My son got better on Monday and so after that I had to do a LOT of catching up with the hoovering and other cleaning, as well as washing my own clothes, Caleb had dibs on the washing machine until recently. Also, because I can't let myself have an easy life, I started a diet on Tuesday for 13 days. It isn't that fun, I'm eating half decent meals, but as the queen of carbs, I'm struggling! Yesterday it was really hot and I really wanted a nice cold Coke after I got back from playgroup, but until next Sunday, I'm sticking to water!

Enough of the update and onto what we're all here for...! This is the second out of three posts on the new Models Own neons. I love this collection so much, I'm just waiting for more sun, I have an AMAZING nail art planned if we get a nice day. I've been waiting to do it since I got these and I've been growing my nails longer in anticipation.

Before the swatches I'll just say these two polishes have the ideal formula. I used a white base underneath both of them, with two coats of the neon. The formula was slightly thin and watery, but it worked perfectly with the white base to get the maximum brightness.

Pink Punch

This is a super bright coral. Personally I think Pink Punch is misleading because this isn't pink at all compared to Bubblegum!

This was so hard to photograph! I had to use my phone for all of the Ice Neons, because my camera freaked out. I have a kind of outtakes post planned of my terrible camera photos of these, they are horrendous! One day I'll master taking photos of neons!

Toxic Apple

I love Toxic Apple. I wanted the normal version of this in the 50% off sale but it was out of stock, so I was so excited when it was re-released in this collection. I had a bit of drama with this actually, because my first bottle smashed! I managed to save most of it and put it into a clear Models Own bottle, phew! But I tweeted them a picture and they sent me one out straight away. It arrived the day after! I really can't fault Models Own's customer service, they're great! And now I have a full collection of frosted glass bottles, as a collector that is the most important thing!

Here's a bonus picture of Toxic Apple looking extra bright in the sun... You can see the matte effect in this picture too.

Both polishes retail at the Models Own site and selected Boots stores for £5.

What do you guys think of these neons? Are you not a fan, or have they grown on you? Or was it love at first sight?!

Have a great weekend!

Models Own Ice Neons: Bubblegum and Pukka Purple

Hey Guys,

So guess what? My son is sick again. The last two days I have been cleaning up vomit non stop, BUT he's been so clingy so I've had lot of cuddles. I left my Mum's on Wednesday morning so I'm back at my house at last. I even braved a new playgroup yesterday, everyone was so nice, even when Caleb was sick. It has been downhill from there... I have a banging headache, but tonight I had my dinner cooked for me though, my boyfriend's parents had me round for dinner so I had a lovely meal courtesy of them. Just what I needed after the last couple of days!

Anyway, enough about me! I have two of the Models Own Ice Neons to show you. This is the collection I have been most excited about this year. I got these about a month ago but I was too busy to swatch them until just before I got sick last time!

I'm going to stagger these posts. Rather than doing one polish per post, or the whole collection in one, I'll be doing two, then two, then one... I think it's better like that.

So tonight I have Bubblegum, a bright neon pink, and Pukka Purple, a more muted neon purple.

Both of these polishes are different to the other three in the collection in that they can be worn without a white base. However, I did use a white base under Bubblegum.

So onto the swatches! I'll call this post Mum's Choice because my Mum loves these two polishes! She wore the pink one before I even started swatching!

Bubblegum...

Bubble gum is a bright pink, exactly what you see when you picture a pink neon. This is one of the re-releases but made slightly brighter. I wanted Bubblegum back when Models Own had their 50% off sale, as well as Luis Lemon and Toxic Apple but they were all sold out by the time I got around to ordering my 21 bottles of polish!

This is even brighter in real life, but don't even get me started on how hard it is to capture a neon polish. These photos were all taken on my phone for that reason... The formula was bearable on this, a little on the thick side. I used two coats over white for the photo, I find that white really makes the neon pop so it's worth the extra couple coats.

My Mum couldn't wait to get this on her nails, she wore it and loved it! As did all the other ladies in the office she said. The wear time was brilliant, she doesn't take care of her manicures because she has too much to do like working, feeding the dogs, and she got well over a week with one coat of topcoat!

Pukka Purple...

Pukka Purple is a toned down neon. It is so gorgeous! The formula was really thick on this one. I think with this and Bubblegum, they are thick so they can be worn alone. I used two coats of this on its own, although it was totally opaque in one coat.

My Mum has this on at the moment. She couldn't decide whether she wanted Toxic Apple to match Jessie J's nails on The Voice, or this, and this swatch swayed her!

You can buy these two polishes from the Models Own site for £5, but I got them for slightly less because I ordered the box set.

Have you picked up any neons yet?

Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick - Bulletproof Beige

Hi Guys,

My computer hates me... I spent ages editing the photos for this post and then when I quit Photoshop, none of my photos had saved! And so I wanted to put the originals in a folder to edit later, but my computer wouldn't let me rename the folder! And I couldn't copy and paste, couldn't move anything to my trash!!! But I did the classic fix, turn it off and on again... And all my photos were there on my desktop all of a sudden!

Anyway, here is something a bit different, I'm a bit nervous actually, taking these pictures was so hard so I hope everything came out okay!

Recently Superdrug had a free gift with purchase (or 3 for 2 - I can't remember!) offer on Rimmel products and I got this eyeshadow pencil. I bought it with the Scandaleyes black kohl pencil and one of the Apocalips lip lacquers, both of which I love, Rimmel have some great products out right now.

Bulletproof Beige is a jumbo eyeshadow stick. It is a creamy champagne/gold colour that would flatter most skin tones.

Onto the photos, then I'll get into more detail!

Packaging
The pencil tip
Swatch on the inside of my arm
One coat over a primer, with pencil eyeliner and mascara
I am a huge fan of the application of these. I just drew some on my eyelid and smudged it with my finger, perfect!

I liked how this looked on me, but I didn't think it showed up enough against my skin to wear on its own, so I decided to use it as a base for the other eyeshadows I wanted to wear. I used a couple of the shades from the MUA Undressed palette, the dark taupe shimmer for my crease and the peachy matte for the inner corners, then I blended it all.

In case you were wondering, the mascara I used was the MUA curling one that comes in the silver tube. This was a very half hearted application though because the eyeshadow pencil made my lashes short. I'm really impressed with the mascara in general, my lashes are VERY short and for £2 the mascara is brilliant at lengthening and curling them!

Here's what my eyes looked like with this as a base, obviously I lost a lot of the colour in the photo, this was much smokier looking in real life.

Anyway, I was really impressed with this as a base, my eyeshadow didn't budge all day until I look it off this evening! It looked really nice under the colours that I used and I'm generally really happy with the product! No settling into the creases, nothing. It is a subtle colour that I think would look great no matter what eye colour you have, and I can't wait to wear it in the summer when I have a tan!

Have you tried any of these shadow sticks yet? I think I'm going to get a couple more, the bronze one and the black are calling my name! I can imagine the black one would be a great base for darker colours for a night time look.

The Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks retail for £5.99 and I highly recommend checking them out!

Maybelline Color Show Orange Attack

Hi Everyone,

Told you I'd see you today didn't I?! I'm still not 100% better yet from my illness, I still feel horribly congested, but oh well. I did a bit of shopping today and bought a new pair of boots, the mid-season sales are so good! River Island is impressing me for a change. If you follow me on Instagram (@truly_polished) then you'll have seen them already, I love them! I even wore them to ASDA this afternoon!

Anyway, I have a very summery polish for you today. I bought this last week when Superdrug had a 3 for 2 offer on their Maybelline products. I bought this and two others, and I went for more summery shades because I feel like I need to stay away from the dark blues!

Orange Attack is a bright reddish orange polish with a jelly formula. It has buildable coverage but is still sheer enough to see a visible nail line.

I used three coats for the photos below.

Natural light

What I love about this polish is that it dries the exact same colour as it looks in the bottle, I took this picture to show you:

You can buy this at Superdrug for £2.99, and it's on 3 for 2 at the moment so it would be rude not to!

Five Favourites: MARCH!

Hey Guys,

I know, half way through April and I finally get around to my March Favourites! The last couple of weeks I've been stuck in a funk... I've been watching too much TV on my laptop, Nashville first and then Hart of Dixie. And I haven't been well. And Caleb hasn't been well. In fact, this week we were so ill that my Mum had to take a day and a half off work to look after us, and then she caught the bug!

I'm writing this with a major head cold so pardon me if the spelling is wrong or anything, there are only so many lemsips one person can have!

I got myself into the habit of not blogging, and I think it's okay to do that, I never want to blog because I feel like I have to, only because I want to! So I've had a bit of a regroup and I've been doing a little bit of swatching, so I have lots to post about. Hopefully I can get back to regular posting now!

So anyway, onto my Five Favourites for March!

1. Truly Polished Turned one!

This month, on the 10th, my blog had its first birthday. I still plan on having a giveaway for that, but the prizes are at my house and I'm at my Mum's!

I would like to thank everyone who has been reading my blog over the past year and those who are new readers! I appreciate every page view and I never thought that my little page of ramblings about nail polish would have been read tens of thousands of times! So thank you guys for that!

2. My second Mother's Day:

This month it was Mother's Day. My beautiful little boy got me a gorgeous card and some Real Techniques brushes, the Core Collection. While he's still young enough to not make me presents I thought I would just get something I wanted. I can't wait until a couple of years' time when he's old enough to make me thoughtful gifts!

3. Nashville:

Oh my goodness, I can't even explain how much I love this show. I watch it on the American schedule so I'm a few weeks ahead compared to here. I even downloaded the soundtrack for my car. What shocks me is that some of the actors aren't even from America, let alone from Tennessee!

4. Disneyland:

Even though this trip was a disaster, the look of my little boy's face when he saw Mickey Mouse made it all worthwhile!

5. Micky Flanagan:

This month we went to see Micky Flanagan in Bournemouth and he was so funny! My boyfriend and I are huge fans of his, and my brother came with us to see him. It was a great night.

So that's it, my highlights of the month! Sorry it has taken me so long to get it all written down. It was a great month and so far this month is doing nothing to live up to it, seeing as I've spent most of it being ill!

Fingers crossed that I can get my act together now, I've got so much cool stuff to show you... The Models Own neons are all swatched and ready, I've got some Maybelline ColorShow polishes, a lipstick review, and of course, the yellow from the Barry M Textured range! All kinds of cool things, so I'm going to make as much time as possible for blogging!

See you tomorrow!
